Max Way Scholarship      

Max Way completed thirty-five years in education as a teacher, counselor, Special Projects Director, Assistant Superintendent of Scioto Valley Schools in Pike County, and Director of Adult Basic and Literacy Education in a nine county area of Southern and Southeastern Ohio. He pioneered many of the practices used today in the ABLE classroom. Max Way will always be remembered for his development of innovative Adult Education Programs and outstanding leadership throughout Ohio and the nation. Helping an adult learner further his/her education with this scholarship is a fitting tribute to Max for his efforts.

As identified by Max Way and per his request, the scholarship recipient must:

1. Be a resident of one of the following counties: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton, or Washington.
2. Have attended an ABLE program in one of the counties listed, within the last twelve months.
3. Have a General Educational Development (GED) or high school diploma.
4. Enroll in postsecondary education or training within six months of receiving scholarship.
5. Attach two letters of recommendation to the application, one must be from the ABLE instructor .
6. The Max Way Scholarship is for a maximum of $1,000.

 

Linda Luca Memorial GED Scholarship    

Linda Luca was the ABLE Director for the Mid-East Ohio ABLE Program. Prior to that, she had served many years in adult education in a variety of situations.  Linda served on the OAACE Board of Directors for several years.

The applicant must:

1. Be a resident of Ohio.
2. Have obtained the General Educational Diploma (GED) and achieved a 170 or higher on each subtest.
3. Have attended or currently be enrolled in any adult education program within the last twelve months.
4. Enroll in postsecondary education or training within six months of receiving scholarship.
5. Attach two letters of recommendation to the application. One must be from an OAACE member.
6. OAACE members are not eligible.
7. The Linda Luca Memorial GED Scholarship is for a maximum of $1,000.

 

OAACE Member Scholarship

The applicant must:

1. Be a resident of Ohio.
2. Be a member of OAACE for at least one year prior to applying for the scholarship.
3. Enroll in postsecondary education or professional development training within six months of receiving scholarship.
4. Attach two letters of recommendation to the application.
5. The OAACE Member Scholarship is for a maximum of $1,000

Charley Flaig Lifelong Learning Scholarship

Charley Flaig was the director of Scioto County ABLE for nineteen years. He served on the Board of Directors for both OAACE and the Ohio Literacy Network, where he served as President.

The applicant must:

1. Be a resident of Ohio.
2. Have an Ohio General Educational Development (GED) or high school diploma.
3. Have attended or currently be enrolled in an adult education program within the last twelve months.
4. Enroll in postsecondary education or training within six months of receiving scholarship.
5. Attach two letters of recommendation to the application , one must be from an OAACE member .
6. OAACE members are not eligible.
7. The Charley Flaig Lifelong Learning Scholarship is for a maximum of $1,000.
